This thing began life as a misunderstanding.. There was this Patricia A. McKillip story called something like The Throme of the Earl of Sherrill.. Now, I thought the title was "throne" and not "throme".. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the story was about a song.. Well, I figured since I had my own imaginings about what the "throne" would be about that I would just have to write it..

Speaking of misunderstandings.. When I wrote this little thing, I thought it was totally serious.. Anyone who has ever read it thought it was supposed to be a comedy.. Go figure..
